Great to run into you and hear your story this weekend at the bc chiropractic meeting.
Amazing story of endurance. Incredible job, well done. Very few people really challenge themselves. Your more than a leader.
If you and the family get a chance, we love to have you over for the weekend some time.
Our three girls and my wife would love it I'm sure.
Hope your family is healthy as ever.
all the best Shane

Paul! You crazy mofo!! I heard your interview on Rock 101 today and at the end when I heard your name I yelled out to my co-worker, "Hey, I know that guy!"
The last time I saw you was 8 years ago in Squamish, as usual your finger tips were bleeding. Haha.
It's good to see you again, and your family!
Take care,

Hi Paul,
You probably don't remember me, but we met briefly in March 1991. I just stumbled across the details of your incredible crossing and wanted to say congratulations - whoa! I'm not surprised that you have gone on to do amazing things. Your girls are beautiful and you all look very happy so congrats on that as well.
I am about to embark on my own journey - of a different sort - that will take me away from my 3 year old for two weeks. I have been dreading the separation but you've clearly given me a large dose of perspective! Thanks for that.
All my Best

Dear Paul, this has entry has been awhile coming as I have heard about your journey from the get-go. I am friends with Bette, Richard, and Nathan and they have consistenly praised and gushed about you for a very long time now! Knowing their characters and standards, I knew you must be extra-special. Wow. is really all I can say. I am SO amazed at what you endured, and what you accomplished. Simply put, your journey is humbling to read. Emotion welled inside me when I saw your video crossing the finish line. Observing your race and victory from afar has left me feeling enlightened and a renewed inspiration to live every day to its fullest has become my mantra. I cannot even imagine what it was like to see it all from the Canary Islands and in Antigua. Or to know you personally! You have inspired me and so many others to reach for incredible goals and work hard to attain success in them. I am so sincerely grateful for my life as a blessed person and you have entrenched the reasons even more so. I read an article in the Calgary Herald regarding your arrival in Antigua back in February and couldn't wipe the smile off my face after. I am still in awe, and so proud that you are a fellow Canadian. I should also mention that I regard Nicole in great veneration for her strength and support. She is to be applauded and celebrated as well.
I sincerely wish you and Nicole all the best in the future. Well done. -

Sean Cash (Tuesday, 01 April 2008)
Hey Paully,
How about another update on your race blog? (Not all of us are fortunate enough to be in a city where you are i.e. Vancouver & Fernie). Specific Questions that I wouldn't mind answered are:
1) How are you feeling? it's been a little over six weeks since you made it back on Terra Firma. How are you feeling? is it surreal being back or business as normal? (like you never left)
2) Are you in awe of what you did?? (i.e. when I eat a really big sandwich, I'm like: "I can't believe I ate the whole thing". Are you like that now: "I can't believe I rowed the whole ocean")?
3) Do you miss your boat? (i.e. Tom Hanks was pretty upset when he lost Wilson at the end of Castaway. I know you weren't on a desert island with your boat, but in a way you lead a symbiotic relationship (the boat would have sunk if you weren't there to pump it, while at the same time the boat kept you alive and got you across an ocean. Given this relationship, what feelings do you have towards your boat? Feelings like a child to their favorite teddy-bear or something else?
4) What was your weight when you started and what was your weight when you ended? Was the change (if any expected)?
5) When we spoke you said that you hadn't done any exercise yet. Have you done any since then?
6) Do you wonder where Chirpy is? (or any of the animals that you saw on your voyage?)
umm. that's about it right now. Another blog entry please:)
Thanks,
Sean -

Hi Paul,
Good to see you the other afternoon at UBC when I saw you last in Calgary 20+ years ago. Across the Atlantic. That's great. It's Box 204 Cassidy BC. Anyway good to see you. Keep in touch.

Hi Paul,
We couldn't wait to get home to read about your Atlantic crossing.
WOW....was all we kept saying.
You don't stop for a second though, do you? From rowing to walking in the woods.
It was great seeing you in our corner of the world.
We wish you and your friends well and hope you had an adventure out in the Stranby today. -

Hi Paul, you made UK tv, "Go Commando!" on ITV. You're shown on the Spirit of Fernie (close up) yelling advice to Orlando.
Also we saw more of Orlando and Ben than one would have liked. Things are very different on British TV. Program was very well done, gave a good account of life on a ocean rowing boat. Given the difficulties they faced, your accomplishment is looking even more incredible.

Hi Paul
You probably would like to know that as you pressed every muscle in your body to make CANADIAN HISTORY and finish your solo rowing race across the Atlantic Ocean, the CANADIAN GOVERNMENT was also making Canadian History and on Wednesday afternoon, Feb 13/08, the
HOUSE OF COMMONS passed
UNANIMOUSLY, the Ammendment to the Museum Act to include the CANADIAN MUSEUM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS (CMHR) . This is an historic (and most important) event as the CMHR is the FIRST Federal Museum to be located outside of the Capital Region (Ottawa/Hull). You may also want to know that all aspects the project are now proceeding full steam ahead and your enthusiastic support for the CMHR has been much appreciated. I will be happy to share more information with you after you return to Canada.
Enjoy the moment !
CONGRATULATIONS, again, on
your amazing achievement.
Best wishes

Congratulations Paul! Being two "old geizers" as Fabian likes to say, we thought you must be out of your mind to row across the Atlantic, but we have been following you faithfully. What a journey! Thanks for sharing it with us. You have finished what you set out to do and in a way that makes everyone proud. What an achievement! We are thankful the sea has returned you to your family. What a birthday present Elinor! Best wishes to everyone and safe trip home. Love and hugs to all.

Congratulations from a fellow DC from BC on your finish. By the looks of your video picture, your almost dark enough to be a native Antiguan! This was said by a native Antiguan to a rather tanned person at a beach in Antigua when we were there 5 or 6 years ago, "Wow your almost as dark as me!" This fellow looked almost as skinny as you do too. Ha.

As I'm sitting this morning, sipping my tea and looking out over English Harbour, I can't help but to smile as I reflect on yesterday. What an amazing sight, Paul rowing in, a huge sea of red, screaming and cheering, with flares going off. Paul mobbed by children and adults alike! Thank you Paul, for such incredible memories.
Scotiabank did an amazing job, as everyone came out, complete with a steel band, and Donna and Brian, organized the DJ, and Paul brought in a squall, just so we'd know what it was like being out in the weather.
Paul you were absolutely amazing, after rowing for so many miles and so many days, giving of yourself to everyone greeting you. A local reporter was overheard, saying into his recorder, that Paul was a class act, never before shown by a rower, taking the time for every request for autographs, every requests for photographs, etc.
Thank you Paul, for being such an inspiration, and for having us in La Gomera and now in Antigua.
We are very proud to be your friend.

oOk.
So we watch with great excitment, and then planning to go skiing/snowboarding. Well it is -20*c and Mom would rather be in Tigua jumping on the dock with Peter, sounds like a great plan. But I said, Mom I dont think that we are going to be able to get a flight to Tigua within 6 hours, lol, so we guess we'll have to settle for the cold. Seeing that Paul was able to conquer the Atlantic, I told her to tuffen up and take me to the hill ! lol We still watching!!! Love Lois and Sarah, in the Cold Sault. -

Cheryl Miller (Friday, 15 February 2008)
Adding to the enormity of Paul's 72nm row yesterday, Lin and Rachel of Barbara Ivy describe the night Paul rowed by them:
"...the night time brought with it a very strong wind, enormous seas and horrendous rain storms. In the end we had to give up, tie the steering in position and go to sleep, which meant risking going South again. True to form, we woke up this morning with it still blowing a gale out there and the GPS telling us we were once again 4 miles too far South – soul destroying…"
Doesn't this just speak to Paul's character - still rowing with heart and soul in the kind of weather that hunkered everyone else down....WOW!!!!
The time to donate is fast eroding - Please everyone, make a donation on Paul's "Sponsorship and Donations" page - every little bit will help.

Holy #*@^!!
This morning I go on the computer to see how Paul is doing and I look at the bottom of the list. What! He's not there. I scan up, and up some more, and see that he has passed two other boats. Holy ----! Now with only 13 nm's to pass to be in the front of the remaining pack, and what a finish this will be. What a party this will be!
If I ever get a chance to visit Fernie, BC, Paul, you can be sure that I will make a stop at your business and shake your hand(hopefully they have healed by then).
Simply amazing to say the least. Keep on pushing.
I have made a pledge to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights that if you finished first in your category, I would double the amount and that was based on so much a kilometer. Well it sure looks like everyone wins here and I would like to thank you for an incredible, and interesting race showing us fellow Canadians what we can do if we truly put our minds to anything.
Keep rowing!

Paul !!!!
How am I going to focus at school today. !?
Well, I am sure the teachers will be happy when I am un-settled all day. This is outstanding!!! Already 36 miles today and you passed them pairs team.
My mother is seriously into this. She is wearing a Roots Canada t-shirt to work, I could tell you what the staff at Pinewood Public School will be doing today. We are all SO excited, but I really think she is the most amazed, she cries and laughs constantly when she is on here, even at work she said. My Grandma is So proud of you, we call her so many times about it, she more then likly has a sore ear. lol. You get that Peter, we know you can do it, Already 2/3 done ! heehaw.
Tackle them waves Paul!!! You are the one, Whoohoo!
Well, I will check back soon, But I probably be getting ready for school, or maybe just get away from my Mom who is going (or gone) crazy over all this excitement. ROW HARD, Be Safe and it will be the best Birthday Gift for your Mom !

Hi mate,
you are so close now. What a great effort in the last 1000 miles. You've put in some awesome mileage for the last few weeks. You are a hero to have done that crossing solo, it was mental torture doing it as a pair let alone doing it individually. Enjoy your time in Antigua mate, you will probably be more knackered when you have to run around after Joy and Amy. Also well done Nikki for enduring the last couple of months. Nick 'No Fear' -

Wow wow wow.
From the computer sidelines this seems like a SPRINT to the finish.
3 teams with nothing but fear as you race towards them. 72 miles in one day! Are you frickin' messing with us? We are already super proud of you but now you are moving into IDOL status.
Take it all in as you close out this race in Attalla style.
A very moving experience as a 'blog watcher' and you can't imagine the joy and emotion you have brought to those watching closely.
Look out Antigua..a Canadian is closing in fast creating history!
Although I won't be there in Antigua physically...Susie and I will be thinking of you the day you cross onto Land.
Thanks for the experience Paul... -

Peter's sleeping, perhaps blissfully unaware he'll be seeing the whites of your eyes tomorrow and shortly thereafter the back of your boat. Your effort is nothing less than Herculean!

Song for St. Valentines Day At Sea ( Love Will get You Through) (Thursday, 14 February 2008)
There?s a boy, a little boy, shooting arrows in the blue
And he?s aiming them at someone, but the question is at who
Is it me, or is it you? It?s hard to tell until you?re hit
But you?ll know it when they hit you ?cause they hurt a little bit
Here they come, pouring out of the blue
Little arrows for me and for you
You?re falling in love again, falling in love again
Little arrows in your clothing, little arrows in your hair
When you?re in love you?ll find those little arrows everywhere
Little arrows that will hit you once and hit you once again
Little arrows that hit everybody every now and then
(Who-oh-oh, the pain)
Some folks run, and others hide, there ain?t nothing they can do
And some folks put on Armour, but the arrows go straight through
So, you see, there?s no escape, so why not face it and admit
That you love those little arrows when they hurt a little bit?
Here they come, pouring out of the blue
Little arrows for me and for you
You?re falling in love again, falling in love again
Little arrows in your clothing, little arrows in your hair
When you?re in love you?ll find those little arrows everywhere
Little arrows that will hit you once and hit you once again
Little arrows that hit everybody every now and then
Here they come, pouring out of the blue
Little arrows for me and for you
You?re falling in love again, falling in love again
Little arrows in your clothing, little arrows in your hair
When you?re in love you?ll find those little arrows everywhere
Little arrows that will hit you once and hit you once again
Little arrows that hit everybody every now and then
Little arrows in your clothing, little arrows in your hair
When you?re in love you?ll find those little arrows everywhere
Little arrows that will hit you once and hit you once again
Little arrows that hit everybody every now and then
Little arrows in your clothing, little arrows in your hair
When you?re in love you?ll find those little arrows everywhere...

Wow Paul, you're going so fast the water must be steaming. We're running out of adjectives to describe our admiration!
You must be really good at visualising, I'll bet you can already see the finish line in your mind and it's pulling you in. I was once told to imagine a rope to haul yourself up on when climing mountains - it really works - what do you use out there? Do you have an imaginary engine? Sail? Chain pulling you in? Whatever it is it's working!
Wishing you strong shoulders and the wind in your face. Keep drinking that coffee!!

Paul,
You're doing great buddy. The finish is right there!
A quick smile for you:
A polar bear walks into a bar and asks for a gin and ...
...
...
tonic.
The bartender says, "Sure, but what's with the big pause?"
The polar bear says, "Hey! I need them for walking on snow!"
Cheers,

If the site is accurate...you have 187 to go and only 37 behind the other solo.
you are probably not reading these guestbook entries as you get into the "Attalla Zone" and close HARD.
Canada is now pulling on those oars with you and as Norm Taylor wrote..a few extra pulls each day (knowing Canada and your fans are pulling with you)and you will reach Antigua shortly (very shortly) and even pass a few others.
The miles you have logged in the late stages of the race are second to none.
The excitement must be building in your mind and on your boat because it is definitely building in laptop computers, offices, and homes of your fans and followers as we are glued to our screens watching this exciting finish to a historical Canadian accomplishment.
With this speed you have established Woodvale better reinforce the dock at Antigua as you pull in with gusto.

Since Paul is obviously trying harder, I think it behooves his loyal fans to put in an extra effort too. This race has cost Paul a lot, emotionally, physically and psychologically, but more practically, financially. I know he could use a lot more financial support, so I suggest that we all dig as deep as he is and visit his "Sponsorship & Donations" page. Let's ALL support either the charity or him and his family (a coffee and bagel on Antigua can cost $18 apparently). Every little bit will add up - just like the miles he has put in every day. He and his family have given so much...Let's show Paul we are REALLY supporting him - GO PAUL!! - GO FANS!!!

#1182
Norm Taylor (Wednesday, 13 February 2008)
Unbelievable day today Paul!! You made up another 10 miles on Pete! Prior to today your average gain has been 7.75 miles per day for the past 16 days. This is a true Attalla finish.
Pull on those oars now like never before and you will catch him. I read Pete's blog tonight and he is over-indulging on his birthday treats. You have him where you want him. Get into his slip stream and pass him in 3 days!!! You will be on land a few hours later at this pace!
We all know you can do it. If you have to get up 30 minutes earlier and row 30 minutes later the taste of victory will be very sweet. You will make history to complete this race, but you will be a Canadian legend if you win it.
Dial your mind and your body into the program like never before...YOUR race is on!

What an amazingly exciting race and adventure this has been for you, your family and all of us. You have the best of websites that has allowed us all to share in this. Thank you for that. The miles you have been eating up makes us jump out of our seats in excitement! You and they are unbelievable! Awesome! We have our calculators out a couple times a day just doing some figuring! 62 Miles - another solid day on the waves out there buddy! Less talk, more rowing. Less sleep, more rowing - you have a job to do.
You've closed the gap to 42 miles, who would have thought that a hairball ocean crossing race would come down to the wire like this. You're putting on a helluva show!
You are THE competitor.
He's in your sights and you're honing in on him like a friggin' smart bomb! Can you smell the fear yet? Remember, everyone else wil be getting juiced for the finish stretch - if you're gonna keep gaining on them like this you'll need more juice. Go above and beyond - do the unimaginable.
Drop the hammer.

Paul: 16 days ago you were 176 miles behind 1 Charmed Life...as of today you have made up 124 of those miles and your afterburners are just starting to kick-in!
That in itself is a huge accomplishment, but you know that if you want to, you can win this race as a soloist. It is yours for the taking and you can smell it, we all can! You will not only be the first Canadian to complete this race but the first to WIN it!
Find your rhythm and ride those waves.

Hey Paul:
Something just came to me as I was reading your blog and I thought I would pass this on to you because you are the true meaning behind this saying.
Brittany has been given a tech shirt for track and field and on the back it says "You can recover from pain, but You can't recover from quitting" I believe the word quit is not in your vocabulary and the pain will soon be over. Keep going, row hard. -

Paul,
you can be responsible for changing the effects of Global Warming if you keep up this tremendous pace! The wake behind your boat must be so large...large enough to create an imbalance on the currents and tides...such an imbalance to change the weather patterns! Your speed and progress is outstanding as far as I can see from the 'internet sidelines'. I would HATE to be your competition.
On another note, I want to give you a stock tip to help you raise a bit of $$.
Hear me out: many (and I mean many) Canadians have been following your race. I can speak for all of them when I say you have "inspired people". Inspiring people causes them to have hope, increases their energy, and generally makes them more optimistic and positive. I would place a 'BUY' recommendation on antidepressant drugs and the companies that make them because the loyal "spirit of fernie" followers will have a void to fill when you accomplish your goal!
I am thinking of starting up a group for people to cope after you finish the race. Want to be the first guest speaker?
Your race and pending achievement has truly been inspirational!
I don't need to say it to you but I will anyway..pull hard and finish the only way you know how.

I tell your story in Thunder Bay so you have central Canada covered!

All our bags are packed, we’re ready to go
Taxi’s waiting outside our door
Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Antigua, here we go!
The rain and snow are left behind
Warm Caribbean sun will soothe our mind
Already we’re so excited, we can hardly wait!
So, row on and enjoy the ride
Chirp and Moby and Whale pods
Paul’s digging deep, fearless Attalla stride.
We’re leaving on a jet plane
Go Spirit of Fernie, Go!
Row real fast, like you’ve never done before.
There’s so many times you kept us in suspense
So, many times we held our breaths
Blue/red dot moving swiftly towards south west
Every update, we think of you
Every blog you write, laugh and cry with you
When you come back, regale us with Atlantic’s mighty tale.
Now, the time has come to greet you
English Harbour will rise before you
Nelson’s Dockyard filled with “Oh Canada”
Dream about the days to come,
When Joy, Amy, Nic will be in your arms
Hold them tight and never let them go!
So pull hard and enjoy the ride
Chirp and Moby and Whale pods
Paul’s digging deep, fearless Attalla stride
We’re leaving on a jet plane
Go! Spirit of Fernie, Go!
Row real fast, like you’ve never done before.
Go Paul! We’ll see you soon! Be safe.

It's great to read your posts, - that photo of the whale below your boat is fantastic, and the stories of dolphins are brilliant. I think those are the aspects of your trip I’d enjoy most. I used to cox a rowing eight and although I occasionally envied my rowing team mates, I certainly don't have what it takes to row across an ocean. I'd always be stopping to watch the wildlife (and eat snickers bars) and I'd never get home!
Do you feel your ears burning? We're talking about you. All good I promise!
I feel like I've just had two of the busiest months of my life and often wondered how much more one can possibly fit into a day, week or month and then I read your blog and remember that you actually NEVER stop! You are in fact the living embodiment of NONSTOP. NONSTOP Paul. Just remember to stop when you get to 17.09° N 61.80° W!
Enjoy the last part of the journey and in the words of Stephen Hawking (and then Pink Floyd) make sure you keep talking. When I surf I sometimes (actually being honest it's pretty often!) enjoy talking to myself, rambling on about waves and water and moves. I hope you're enjoying those moments - because when you get back to 'society', Fernie, work, etc you'll have to be sensible again. Well, as sensible as Fernie allows you to be!
Take care and good luck with the last leg,
Rupert

Oh my gosh, Paul, you're on fire! It's so fun to watch you speeding through this last leg. So impressive!
As for this "coach" fella -- what kind of weirdo trash talks someone who's rowed 5/6ths of the way across the Atlantic Ocean by himself? Pity the poor woman married to that guy. ;-)
Sending lots of love (from me and the trash talker!). Ollie can't wait to see the Attalla sisters again. Great to think that you'll be HOME soon! We all miss you and the whole fam. -

Hey Paul!
At this rate it looks like your next Sunday dinner will be at a crowded table: cooked food, wine (hopefully with bubbles in it), fresh coffee! It has been a memorable experience this winter just to read your posts and watch your progress, particularly as you fought to stay above 17N these past few weeks. Enjoy these last days at sea!

A Joke For You (Saturday, 09 February 2008)
GRANDMA IN COURT
Lawyers should never ask a British Columbia Grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer. In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grand motherly, elderly woman to the stand.
He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?'
She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'
The lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'
She again replied, 'Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire country. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'
The defense attorney almost died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,
'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you to the electric chair.'

Hey Paul --
I'm hard at work on my new novel, which is about crazy skiing fanatics (I know -- where DO I get my ideas? Such an imagination!). So, I was thinking maybe I need a really crazy character who is rowing by himself across the Atlantic Ocean. He could row over a whale the size of a school bus, get hit in the head by a flying fish, and be nearly run down by a boat full of Norwegians. But that wouldn't work. Fiction needs to be plausible and who would ever believe that crazy story?!
You're doing the undo-able! Keep it up.

Now with your second experience of breaking another oar...only you know the mental experience but those of us watching daily at your mileage...we believe and hope that this new oar will provide a similar experience of more miles and safe arrival to your destination.

Paul,
I don't know what you are eating out there, but it must be spinach, as your miles are just dropping more and more each day. I think it was Popeye who said ...."I'm strong to the finish, I'm Popeye the sailor man...." and that sure seems to happen now.
As the end is in sight,(no land yet)it would be nice now, for everyone who is supporting you emotionally to do it financially as well, as that would really make your journey complete.
Keep riding those waves and you will be in the harbour in no time.

Can't wait to see you, Paul. I hope you are stopping in Vancouver on your way home for a big party! Steve has been in contact with the Prime Minister and all the MP's of B.C (yes, all of them) about your epic journey. I see a few have signed your guestbook! Steve has noticed that Mr. Harper hasn't signed as of yet, so he has begun a campaign to run in the next election. Therefore, he says, next time you do this, he will be Prime Minister and he will sign your guestbook! So far he has canvased Louie (our cat) and Levi to vote for him. Levi is a "yes" but Louie is an "undecided". I am just shaking my head and looking to my sister for help on how to support a crazy husband's dreams! ;)
So far his campaign promises include:
Free Canucks jerseys for everyone living in Alberta,
A new National held weekly called "Monday" (possibly to be called "Funday",
Swearing will be punishable by fine unless you are really, really, really, mad,
Every sitting of Parliament will end with a yodeling contest, the winner of which will get their favorite bill passed,
The word "poutine" will somehow be integrated into our national anthem,
Okay, okay I'll put a stop to this before he promised something outrageous. We love you and can't wait to see you! -

Hey what's this talk about fatigue? Paul Attalla hasn't even heard of fatigue. That word is NOT in his vocabularly. Remember: "Start out as hard as you can, and then go harder." Direct quotation. Of course, you've set yourself a slightly (?!) harder challenge than usual this time -- but Paul Attalla ain't afraid of no challenge. Go get 'em!!
Every time you think of fatigue, think of your beautiful girls (all three of them) waiting on the shore. How great is that reunion going to be?!

Hey Paul hows itgoing i've been reading your blogs and from what i can tell your have a great time but now that your coming close to the end you have to remeber to dig deep and push its just likje aby other sport the last is always the hardest but if you focus on something that you would like to see when you it will force you to push yourself to get to that finish line as fast as possible. I know this is the hardest part of a race but this is also the best part of the race because you know your coming up to the finish line

Cousin Paul,
With great pride I have been following your journey with amazing ah of your accomplishment, so I send this message of hope for your final days at sea.
Hope abides; therefore I abide
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.
I am still alive, vibrant with life.
The black cloud will disappear,
The morning sun will appear once again
In all its supernal glory.
What keeps us alive, what allows us to endure?
I think it is the hope of loving,
and being loved.
Keep up the amazing work!

A quote of Terry Fox...you are having an impact on those who are following your progress.
Canadian Flags will be raised soon enough.

As I mentioned to your brother Pete, I am facinated by your trip and must check the website 2 or 3 times a day. Congratulations and keep on rowing. As for the posting on your website that your team had been asked about support boat interaction with respect to other teams, in my view that question needs to be asked only to the other teams "being interacted with". It is those teams that know whether or not it is right whether to accept additional support. If I were you Paul, I wouldn't put my mind to it any further.

Don Kirkham (Saturday, 02 February 2008)
Hi Paul,
by my reckoning you only have about 14 days to go, which is actually very close to finishing. When this is over you will be one of only a very few people, more people have stood on the moon than rowed the Atlantic solo.
Every day I read your blog, then go to the woodvale site, and dream of doing it next time around. I hate to sound soppy but you are my hero, if it wasn't for people like you we would still be living in caves and huddling over fires.
You are on of those people who not only make it happen, but actually 'do it'
hang in there buddy, everyone at my mine in Flin Flon is rooting for ya, 14 days before you can wobble on the dock!
cheers

HiPaul. We watch your progress each day and continue to be in total awe of how well you are doing and what you are experienceing. We can indeed imagine how you will feel when you cross the finish line in "tigua" to meet your family and friends.
The CMHR project is moving forward very well with donations coming in from across Canada and also from
many supporters in the USA. We will be attending events in Naples to share our pride and enthusiasm for this monumental development which you understand and are helping to promote. Many thanks for this from the CMHR committees and staffers as we know they follow your progress with great interest and amazement. No doubt you are a real Canadian Hero to all of us.
Keep up with your positive attitude, great sense of humor and awesome endurance. You have inspired me to play tennis, golf, bike etc afte only 7 weeks with my new knee. Great for me to have a role model like you.
We have your food supply for your 96 plus 5 days that Sean sent us from London that you obviously will not need as you will be in Antigua in less than
90 days. We will feed it to Brad and Lisa when they visit us in Naples next week !! If you want to reach us by phone, our
number in Naples is 239-2540767 and the best time
is before 7:30 AM Eastern
Keep on rowing -- you have
thousands pulling for you.

Hey Paul. We cracked the 3 meter mark here yesterday with another dump last night. This is one of the best winters for deep powder ever. Epic day after epic day. So you are out there rowing we are here being caressed by deep powder. I guess after Joy's post there is no chance we could get you to do the Pacific next winter for us?

Hello Paul,
Your brother-in-law, Steve Kroeker brought your remarkable quest to my attention and I was compelled to write a few words to tell you how inspiring your journey is. You are proving that with determination and vision, no obstacle is too great to overcome. Your adventurous spirit coupled with your drive to raise funds for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights sets an example for all Canadians. It is a symbol of what one Canadian can do for his country and for the preservation of human rights. I stand in great admiration of your efforts and I wish you all the best.

Well Paul. . .
Great progress. You are so close to that other solo guy it is great! Keep up the amazing job and you'll be beside him in no time ![ I think it is funny, how his name is Peter, like your brother. ahha ]
Well, I told Nicole yesterday on facebook how lucky they were to have snow in Vancouver, meanwhile here in the Sault it had been melting because we got a down-poor of rain! Not good for skiing, but we woke up this morning to a shut-down city. We got a tunn of snow. We can hardly see out the windows on our house, there are also very bad winds. I am excited though, seeing as it begins to get better and I am off for 5 days, I will be able to ski ! :)
Keep going, you are doing great!
Your on the down-hill slope gliding into Tigua, but we are a lil' concerned. When you finish, what are we going to read everyday! No blog to look forward too, and being the first one to call Gramma and tell her about your adventures for the day. Also no more guestbook posts ! :(
aww, you are amazing ! Have fun during your last while out there !!!

Paulie -- that eddie sounds insane - nice work getting through it. And bravo for diving under the boat - your heart must have been thumping. Those are the moments where you dig deeper than any human being I've ever met -- steely Attalla determination. Joy's quote would get any Dad rowing just a little faster -- what a wonderful little girl. Keep reeling in a Charmed Life -- the second half of the race is your advantage. You're mentally stronger than everyone else!
You get a pile of encouragement from everyone in your guestbook - I imagine while way out there on the Atlantic you'd take some comfort in hearing a few snippets of regular life too......
Great skiing awaits your return - not sure about Fernie but Vancouver is under a blanket of snow right now and the mountains have been getting pounded. I spoke to Mikey M on the weekend, sharing a chuckle about his new gig with Rossi and my first time skiing in 22 years. You'd have laughed your ass off if you'd seen it Paulie. Let's just say your title as the best skier I've ever seen is still safely intact.
Looking forward to having you back on land. Keep it going amigo.

Hi Paul .Great progress, keep it up.Here is a lil clean nautical humour.A pirate and his parrot, were adrift in a lifeboat following a dramatic escape from a valiant battle. While rummaging through the boat's provisions, the pirate stumbled across an old lamp. Secretly hoping that a Genie would appear, he rubbed the lamp vigorously. To the amazement of the castaways, a Genie came forth. This particular Genie, however, stated that he could only deliver one wish, not the standard three. Without giving any thought to the matter the pirate blurted out, "Make the entire ocean into rum!" The Genie clapped his hands with a deafening crash, and immediately the entire sea turned into the finest rum ever sampled by mortals. Simultaneously, the Genie vanished. Only the gentle lapping of rum on the hull broke the stillness as the two considered their circumstances. The parrot looked disgustedly at the pirate and after a tension-filled moment spoke: "Now yee've done it!! Now we're goon to have to pee in the boat." Oh by the way what did Capt. Hook die from................Jock Itch.Godspeed and be safe

Hi Paul,
Great event to have 50+ dolphins jumping around your boat. It is beautiful but a kind of scary. At least that was my experience with dolphins in the Bahamas following my criscraft and me trying to outrun them.

Not sure what advice to give if you are concerned about pirates... Captain Zissou of the documentary 'The Life Aquatic' kept a Glock (pistol) hidden in his speedo just in case. You might want to try that.

The support and encouragement you've been receiving from all the people are beyond awesome and your Guest Book reveals how we are absolutely mesmerized and moved by what you do. What uplifting messages!
I especially like the ones from the young people who call you "Mr. or Dr. Attalla" with their wonderful good wishes.
Well Dr. Attalla, we will see you in Antigua. Richard is calculating, extrapolating, and re-calculating your arrival date and we will be there on the dock! with Canadian flags, champagne (just like at La Gomera) and this time, we will all sing "Oh Canada" as the welcoming party will be pretty big!
Keep your spirits up. Hope your new found friends, Chirp and Moby will get to meet the wide eyed and excited welcoming party! Chirp will learn English and become bilingual and we'll have to find another boat for Moby to inhabit. Keep on rowing, Paul! Be well.

It also means I can still avoid the housework since I am far too busy watching the dots move across the screen. Not to kick-in your competitive nature into over-drive Paul but I cannot help but notice how quickly you are catching up to One Charmed Life.
Brett: I have a fund raising idea. PROVIDED that Paul agrees that safety comes first! For every mile that Paul makes up in catching One Charmed Life (currently 176 miles back) we all commit to contribute $1.00 per person per mile, further WHEN(not if) Paul passes One Charmed Life we each commit to pay $2.00 per person, per mile, of lead.
Who wants to participate?
I am comitted and expect to provide Paul with a cheque for $200
Stay strong and be safe!!!

Under 1000 to go buddy!
Being your rudder and steering your boat with you everyday, I know that you are just ramping up for the final part of this epic adventure. We all know you are strongest when everyone else is starting to tire out and hit the wall.
Stay strong buddy, "Tigua" is close!
Looking forward to your email update that says "Land ho!"

ps. You probably have massive pipes now (have you named them? Thunder and Lightning? Zeus and Apollo? Tonto and Kemosabe?
When you arrive in Antigua you can go up to people and say "Excuse Me is there a Veterinarian around here?", they'll look at you puzzled, and say "Why?' and you can then hold up your arms, flex your muscles and say: "Because these Pythons are Sick!" -

Hi, Paul. I'm still checking on you everyday and think you are doing great! Keep up the good work and get home soon. I guess someone took over the snowdance for you, cause we have lots and they are predicting another 25 cm. in the next 2 days. Of course I hope they are wrong, we have lots already. Take care and keep up the good work.

Hey Paul,
Congratulations on an uneventful day! It was great to see the boys the other night - they are all about to burst because they (we!) are so proud of you. Every time I read your blog, I remember sitting with you on a table (?) at Brett & Nicole's wedding, and you were talking about making this dream come true. Amazing. I really hope you're feeling even a fraction of all the love, strength, and good wishes being sent your way. Take good care,
Morna

Jon Mitchell (Saturday, 26 January 2008)
Hey Paul,
Jon Mitchell here again (formerly of 12112 Lake Louise Way (i can't believe I remember that address!) Just caught up on your blog. Amazing journey my old friend. I believe you spoke to my friend Rebecca from the CBC earlier this week to prep for your interview. Small world! Her husband was over at our place for dinner and he's somewhat of an adventure/outdoorsy freak so i showed him your website and he said that we should tell Rebecca, who works for the CBC in Toronto, and the rest is history. So glad they got you on air. Keep on trecking! Balooka out!

Hello Paul: I ran into Nic at the store yesterday, which was a real treat. Pam spoke with her today and we hope to see her and the girls soon when Kim and Ben arrive. I sent you greetings on both Xmas day an NYrs. day and I don't think they reached you. I am very low tech. I hope this reaches you and I take great joy out of reading your comments first thing every AM. You are truly inspirational. All the best Pam and Ian Shopland.
